What is Search Engine Optimisation
Search engine optimisation, or search engine marketing as we refer to it, is the process of achieving high quality, targeted website traffic by influencing your organic search engine listings. By optimising your website with the search engines in mind you can draw more traffic to your site. It is the technique of attaining high search engine rankings in search engines and directories via changes to an existing website to make that site more search engine compatible.
The main way this optimising is carried out is by understanding how the spider based search engines, (i.e. automatic programs that search and index your website without human intervention) see your website and index its content. However, we can’t leave out the human based search engines, as a well structured, content rich and well optimised site will gain a lot more global weight when a human editor browses your website and ranks it appropriately for a directory. Making sure your website is error free and the content of your website is relevant will go a long way to help your search engine ranking.
